Bartee has been stuck in the CB position for far too long, and should have been allowed to move back to his more comfortable position when it became clear that he was not cut out to play cornerback.

By now though, it could be too late for Bartee. As mentioned, the Chiefs have about 10 safeties on the roster as it is, and after this long at CB, he would have to start all over playing the safety position at the NFL level.

There really isn't such an animal as a shut down corner. These days corners try to contain long enough to allow their pass rush to get to the QB or to try to force the offense to making a throw to someone not yet open. I think they say left side or right side just for player comfort. They get used to playing a certain way on a certain side.
We have always had 10 safeties or more going into camp. Most are being considered only as STs or for fodder. I had never even heard of some of those guys. I certainly don't expect Eric Crouch to make the change, but one never knows.
