RE the Gunther hire, While I'm not sure about Reid, I know Bellichik was No 1 on Carl's shortlist, but he declined to be interviewed for the position because he wanted to stay on the east coast (and at the time he was in line to be the Jets next head coach) and Holmgren was looking for a job giving him total control, which would not have been possible with Carl. The choice I wanted at the time was Billick, but he had gotten too far along in the interview process by the time MArty announced his resignation and so he was pretty much locked in on the Ravens.
The rest of the choices I think were fair enough when they were made. Vermeil, he had just built a Super Bowl team with the No 1 offense and No 6 defense so how could you argue with that. Herm, jury is still out but I don't think he was a bad choice. Remember, he was hired to rebuild this team, as all we heard about all offseason is how old we were and how we needed to get younger...
