Society demands laws that are not completely and utterly reeruned. There are armed robbers, violent rapists and pedophiles probably getting less than 10 years for crimes that are 1,000 times worse. It just doesn't add up. Sure, the kid did something very stupid, but nowhere near 10 years of hard time stupid.
