Does your wife have to do a lot of stuff outside of her regular teaching hours like grade papers and put together tests and shit?
When you have a day off independently of her does she ask you to do a chore that is usually hers?
Why can't she have the day off? Why can't she shovel later? Why can't you just shovel when you get home. Maybe she has been spending the morning making up the house for valentine's day and planning a big surprise.
