Courtney Brown had an interesting teammate and possible draft pick from Cal Poly, 2006 Buck Buchanan award winner, linebacker Kyle Shotwell.
Shotwell is 6-1, 235 pounds and led the nation in tackles for a loss. He finished the season with 122 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, while leading a unit that ranked in the top ten nationally in total and scoring defense and pressured opposing quarterbacks with 37 sacks. Shotwell led all players in the East-West Shrine Game with seven tackles (five solo) on Jan. 20. After the game Shotwell was voted by the game's coaches -- including Don Shula, Dan Reeves and Mike Singletary -- and selection committee as the Pat Tillman Award winner. The honor is given to the player who best exhibits character and work ethic. Mike Singletary said Shotwell was one of the hardest working kids he has seen the past few years.
