I am not going to say I know the laws, but I can understand what appears to be the thinking. If you planned a wedding, and a group of people crashed that wedding in a disruptive manner (thus ruining a service you have paid for), then the perpetrators should be responsible for reimbursing you for your loss as a result of their actions. I have heard of it done from that angle before. I think that this judge ruled the same way for the funeral. A "you break it, you buy it" philosophy that may or may not stand up to an appeal.
