I think these writers are a little smarter than that. If they keep writing it like a comic book...

Either Sylar or Peter or both will show up towards the end of season 2... my guess:

Somewhere 1/2-3/4 through next season, Sylar will show up and save the new baddie's bacon. They'll then team up and look unstoppable... only to be stopped by the return or Peter and/or Nathan Petrelli.

And there's a good reason not to have an ultimate and final showdown between Peter and Sylar yet... they have several more seasons plotted out. If Peter and Sylar both are alive, I wouldn't expect a final fight until the end of the series.
