I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this rumor were true, just because that sounds like Priest to me. I don't think he's a bad guy or anything, but from all accounts he's a loner and doesn't play the raw raw teammate role whatsoever.
I would be surprised that the coach would allow it though.
