My son (8) has been asking for one for about 3 years now. I just decided to skip the toys and have him start helping me in the kitchen. He does pretty good considering the wife won't let him near the stove.
I learned to cook mostly by not being supervised as a kid. I think I was in 2nd grade when I decided one morning I wanted pancakes. We didn't have any pancake mix, so I got out my moms Betty Crocker cookbook and went to work. Other than getting the quantity of the sugar and salt mixed up... the pancakes were good. From there on I just kept cooking. I was a line chef at the nicest place in our little town by the 8th grade. Learned a lot about life working in the kitchen at that young age. Mostly I learned that every waitress really wants to be doing something else, and that many of them are horny and undersexed..... it was an eye-opening exp. for sure.
