But the big thing is that when Turley went on IR a few weeks before the final game, they brought Allan up to the main roster despite having no need for another TE. There's really no other reason to do that except to keep another team from swiping him off the practice squad, so they must like him a little.

Yeah Mayock loves Stevens, from Cal. Good blocker reportedly, but I haven't seen him in action.
Hey, I'm thrilled Herm brought up Allan. I just got the impression that they threw him on the Ps all year because they truly weren't pleased with his progress -- I also remember the TE coach in Hard Knocks (yeah, I know) saying he didn't like how Allan practiced, which seemed asinine to me because Allan was the only TE taking reps throughout all of training camp.
Allan has shown great hands in the limited preseason time he got. He's shown good route-running and he's made the tough catch. I think he's a good role player, maybe even an eventual starter a few years down the road. But the way the Chiefs treated him last year concerned me.
But glad to hear Herm talking him up. Herm doesn't just talk up anybody, and when he namechecks somebody usually it's deliberate. So it's good to hear.
