I always remember this question when there's no reason to raise it, but since it's tangentially relevant, I'll ask it now hoping for a real honest historical answer.
Why in the hell is the Billy-Jean King match so 'groundbreaking?' It's not like it's Martina Navratalova -vs- Jimmy Connors, or Bjorn Borg. So far as I can see it was a match up of a couple of over-the-hill lardasses fuffering around on a lazy Saturday. Not exactly clash of the titans. Were Riggs and King the top of the heap in Tennis for that time, were either of them ever top of the heap?
