Washington Redskins (Sully) - D
Sully got seduced by Combine numbers, or Boston College, or Wonderlic scores, or something. I can't figure why he reached for Cherilus in the first round. I believe he could have a bright future in this league, but Williams, Otah, Nicks, and Baker are every bit the tackle he is, mostly with better feet and far more upside. Cherilus at #21? Risky pick, and I really don't like it.
I wasn't much happier, in fact I believe I was less happy, with WR Jordy Nelson in the second. Opinions are widely ranged on this guy but Nelson will be, at best, a really good role player in the NFL. I don't think the Redskins were so desperate for a possession receiver that they had to reach one or two rounds for Nelson. S Josh Barrett was good value in the third, but that's like putting whip cream on a pile of horse crap and calling it dessert.
Atlanta Falcons (jiketurkey) - B-
Turkey's been screwed. Not only did his Falcons acquire their third 2nd rounder after the mock passed it, his solid third round pick passed away yesterday. Geez.
But you can hardly argue with Matt Ryan at #3. It's a good pick, and one that can safely develop while the Falcons rebuild this year and put out a couple vet QBs for slaughter. I don't know if Ryan physically has what it takes, but he's got a Pro Bowl mind and that ought to be good for something in this game.
The Falcons are going to have a great 2nd round this year, but their 2nd round in this mock was so-so. Patrick Lee will beef up their secondary, and he was a solid pick, but Okam's a gigantic fatso 1- and 2-tech DT who just eats up space. The Falcons should have passed on him and just acquired Bryant in the 3rd -- he was definitely going to be there. Space-eaters in a 4-3 don't warrant such a first day pick.
Minnesota Vikings (Zeke Ziggle) - C
Ultimately, we aren't going to know the value of the Viking's Draft for a couple more years. It could be a genius Draft for picking up Woodson, a 3rd rounder with 1st round talent. Or it could be merely average. Woodson is going to need expert QB coaching, but keep in mind Minnesota's QB coaches thought starting Jackson would pan out and they also drafted Thigpen in the 7th round, so...
Merling was a necessary pick in the 1st round. I'm lukewarm on the DEs in this Draft in general but Merling was a fair pick, the Vikes absolutely need a pass-rush. TE John Carlson in the middle of the 2nd was a gigantic need-reach for a guy who isn't that fast, isn't that good of a blocker, and isn't that tough. DT Marcus Harrison was a need-reach as well but at least it boasts some promise.
