The post office also has a policy that they won't accept your debit card unless it has been signed on the back. I, of course, write "check ID" on the back of mine so that a thief will have a harder time using it. I actually thank clerks when they ask for my ID, it just means they are doing their job.

I can show a drivers license, passport, and miltary ID at the PO. They won't accept it unless I sign it. I got so mad the first couple of times I had to refrain myself and walk out without service. I finally bought an erasable pen and took it with me, they would reject my card, I'd sign it, they'd swipe it, I'd erase it in front of them.
