i have read this forum every once in a while for a couple of years now but have never posted. found this subject appropriate for me to comment on, though.

so here we go... first post

let me start by saying that i never have, nor will i ever "believe" in ghosts..... but..... i experienced something five years ago that i could not explain and that absolutely shook me to my core.

some background info: the house i was living in was very old and very big. It was built around the turn of the century (typical. i know.). our family had been living there since i had been the the 4th grade.

one night, when i was fifteen years old (for you math guys, that makes me twenty now), i awoke to the creaking open of my bedroom door followed by six loud, cracking footsteps upon my bedroom floor (remember. the house is very old, and very noisy). At any rate, it was nothing out of the ordinary. I figured it was my younger brother (14 at the time) coming into my room to steal a clean pair of underwear (a fairly normal occurrence).

tired and not wanting to argue with him, i just laid there and waited to hear the customary footsteps out the door. however, there were no more footsteps. i sat up to see what he was doing.. and what i saw next was difficult for me.

a street lamp outside my bedroom window was illuminating the corner of my room, and i very clearly saw a man standing there with his back to me. he was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap forwards. it was not brother.

with his back to me still he moved toward a suede chair i had in the corner of my room and began to slowly rub the chair. my heart was beating uncontrollably. i laid back down on my bed, but kept my eyes fixed on him.

he stopped rubbing the chair and appeared to begin to undue his pants.

*** WARNING *** this is where things take a horrible turn. i will lose most of you here. but, i assure you, i am not making any of this up.

still with his back to me, his right elbow began to move back and forth in a motion that disturbed me right down to my bones. he appeared to be masturbating.

*you have to understand that i didn't think that this was a ghost*. it was a man in the corner of my room. and at this point, i was so horrified that i remember having to fight back tears. i was literally afraid for my life, believing this man to be some sort of sick son of a bitch that sneaks into houses in small towns (unlocked doors), masturbates, and then kills. i wanted to scream for help at the top of my lungs.

i have no idea how i got the balls to do this, but i began to move toward the other side of my bed (still watching his every move). conjuring up every bit of courage within me i leaped toward the light switch (not far from my bed) and turned it on , simultaneously yelling "who the **** are you?!". the light came on and there was no one there. i felt like i was on the edge of a nervous breakdown at this point and began running through the house, flipping every light on. my mom had to wake up and settle me down.

i slept in the living room for the rest of the night. the next morning, my mom said, and i quote, "i don't know if i should tell you this... but.. last night, about ten minutes before you woke me up, i could have swore i heard someone open the back door and walk upstairs." (my room was upstairs)

also, the suede chair. the spot where he was rubbing the night before was the only place on the chair where the suede was unsettled.

then, to top it all off, i find out that the guy that owned the house before us got killed in an ugly accident at his work. got caught up in some machinery. and my bedroom was where he and his wife slept.

i began researching lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis a year or two later. i was experiencing neither. i'm still not sure what happened.

annnnnnywho, i'm gonna go work on my avatar and stuff like that.
