Meche a #3. He's a good pitcher, has been a great pitcher for 2 months now. He's occasionally lights out, but not consistent enough to be a true top of the rotation guy. He's the definition of a #3 starter.
Bannister a #5. Innings, keeps you in most games. He's a born back of the rotation starter.
You guys need a #1 and a #4. The 4 should be an innings eater that can give you league average performance; A Jeff Suppan-type.

I agree with most of this. I think Greinke is a #2 now with #1 future. Meche I think is a servicable 3 or 4 when hes not playing well, and when he's hot hes a servicable 2.

That said, the Royals are still screwed until they get a new hitting coach. They've wasted 2 seasons of development on both Gordon and Butler. Shealy's busted, Teahan's regressed and Aviles will do the same if they don't get someone else in there soon.

I do agree with this, however. We have seen a decline in our hitters the longer they stay in the majors. Whoever is handling it down in AAA seems to have a magic touch though. They brought up Aviles, Butler came back a new man and they are consistently developing strong hitters.
