Soriano was a shortstop before he was a 2nd baseman...captain Derek Jeter was in his way...
And, Michael Young played 2nd base until he moved to SS to make way for Soriano...
In high school, yes, 2nd baseman typically have weak arms...not in the pros.
Most 2nd baseman in the majors, especially younger 2nd baseman, were SS with strong arms before having to move to 2nd base because the veteran star player is already there...
Most teams have established SS already...and 2nd base is an easy transition.
You're simply a fool if you think 90% of major league second baseman couldn't transition to LF, like Soriano, and put up huge assist numbers...
