SR, I just stumbled upon this thread after talking to you.
I don't have the wisdom that many people do, I'm only 22 years old.
However, I believe that AA is the best possible thing for you. My brother (17) has started to go to NA, and it has worked for him. Its easier to let people you don't know at first to know about your problems, than it is to tell your family/friends/etc. Also, you will find people who have the same struggles as you and together you will be able to work it out.
Also, I would recommend at least bi-weekly visits to a place of worship, if you really want to end this.
Personally, I have been addicted to Tobacco, and Marijuana at certain points of my life. I smoked cigarettes for a year and a half, and just quite, cold turkey. I felt bad for a few days, but since then I've never felt better.
Same with MJ, I always convinced myself that I wasn't addicted, but I obviously was. Cold-Turkey quit that too.
Alcohol is a whole other monster though. Not to sound harsh, but if you really want to quit, you need to get up, and go get help. Do not just let this thing swallow you, while you are still competent enough to get out of it.
I'll say a prayer for you, and hope you decide to do the right thing.
