Why does that player have to be comparable in talent to Tony?
If he's NOT traded, then he's likely retiring after the 2009 season anyway, and then we have NOTHING to show for it.
It's like the talk about "replacing" Jared Allen.
This team has so many holes, I'd rather have several solid starters for the next 10-12 years, than one player - who's proven he was playing for the big payday.
If we traded TG, and used the draft pick to select, say, a RG who becomes the anchor of the OL for the next 10 years, then it was absolutely worth it. Or a MLB. Or any solid starter.
And if they pick an absolute bust, then it was STILL worth it, because we weren't winning WITH Gonzalez to begin with. We have nothing to lose.
Fans are letting sentimentality get in the way of business.
