Gus Malzahn "invented" it during his short career at the University of Arkansas as a way of getting the ball into the hands of McFadden and keeping the ball out of the hands of Casey Dick. They originally called it the Wildcat formation , but it eventually changed to the Wildhog (seeing as we're the Razorbacks/Hogs and all). I think that change came when David Lee came on staff and they began using the formation even more. Lee is now the QB coach at Miami. Presto, the wildhog/wildcat makes its way into the bigs.
