For those bothered by the supposed abstinence message, I think you're more bothered by the politics of that idea than any actual message in the movie. The fact that a movie doesn't have teenage sex in it isn't really the same as a promotion of abstinence.

The main vampires in the movie certainly demonstrate something parallel to abstinence, but the most important character, the human girl, seems more than ready to go. Not only is she ready to give up her virginity (assuming she's a virgin to begin with), but by the end of the movie she's begging to give up her humanity. Given that this movie probably appeals more to girls than to guys, it's not really what I would have considered much of an abstinence message and it certainly isn't heavy handed if it is. __________________ “Boy, you all want power.
