8th Year NFL Coach • 3rd with Chiefs
Nate Wainwright is entering his third season with the Chiefs. After serving as Manager of Football Administration from 2006-07, he currently serves as the club’s Manager of Football Operations/Player Development in 2008. In addition to his football duties, Wainwright also works with the club’s players in conjunction with Lamonte Winston and the Chiefs Player Development Department.

Wainwright came to Kansas City after a five-year stint working with head coach Herm Edwards as a member of the N.Y. Jets staff from 2001-05. Wainwright held the title of Executive Adminstrator to the Head Coach/Coaching Assistant with the Jets in 2005 after serving as a coaching assistant during his first four years with that organization.

The Wilton, Iowa native returned to his Midwestern roots in 2006, joining Edwards in Kansas City. Wainwright reports directly to the Chiefs head coach and performs a variety of both football and administrative duties, serving as a liason between the Kansas City coaching staff and other departments within the Chiefs organization. Wainwright is involved in assisting with the football budget and also works closely with the club executives in the adminstration of training camp.

Wainwright works in close conjunction with the Chiefs defensive coaching staff fulfilling a number of duties during the off-season, training camp and regular season. He assists defensive backs coach David Gibbs in tutoring the clubs defensive backfield. He also coordinates the team’s schedules with Edwards and implements the club’s organizational timeline during practice and during pregame warm-ups. In addition, he handles a variety of logistical issues that arise when integrating a wide range of other events at Arrowhead Stadium around the club’s football schedule.

During his tenure with Edwards in New York, Wainwright worked with the Jets defensive coaching staff, handling various duties including game plan preparations, self-scouting reports and offensive tendency reports. His in-game responsibilities in the coaching booth ranged from communicating down and distance information to the field, as well as identifying personnel packages and presenting information for potential tactical adjustments at halftime.
Wainwright began his NFL career in ‘98 as a Ticket Sales Intern with the New Orleans Saints before earning a full-time position as a Ticket Sales Executive with the Saints in 2000. He also assisted the Saints coaching staff on a volunteer basis during his tenure in New Orleans.
