Had Scott fielded any interest by other teams prior to joining the Chiefs? If he knew that other teams weren't showing a lot of interest, it could've helped in his negotiations. Likewise, if other teams were showing interest, it still would've helped him.
I wonder how any conflicts of interest would've come into play here. Obviously, he didn't know he was coming to the Chiefs, so there couldn't have been anything egregious, but it still seems like he might've been in a meeting with Belichick where they talked about the minimum trade they'd take for Cassel.

An interesting idea. Yeah it seems likely he would have a pretty good idea of the general interest level.
I think the bottom line is that the Pats had to trade Cassel. No way you seriously franchise tag a back-up QB. If they could have gotten a better pick, I'm sure they would have.
