Short Answer - Trying to create an offensive line that can run block and protect the QB.
Long Answer - Considering we have so many other needs, I think we will be able to draft maybe one offensive line starter this year.* This is supposed to be a good year in the draft for centers. Pioli and Belichick drafted Dan Koppen in the 5th round for New England and he has anchored their line for 5 years. I think it is pretty hopeful to think Pioli could recreate that 5th round magic, so maybe use our 3rd or 4th round pick and draft a center. Maybe an Eric Wood from Louisville or Antoine Caldwell from Alabama could possibly start for us. I figure we have Niswanger, Smith, Richardson, and Taylor to compete for the right guard position. Vernon Carey was my first choice for right tackle, but he never even made it to free agency before he was re-signed. I've read a lot of bad things about Khalif Barnes on character and work ethic so I did not think we would go after him. The main question concerning Mark Tauscher would be his health. If his knee checks out healthy, then I think he looks to be one of the best options.
* Not saying we only draft one offensive lineman, but only one that will be able to start.
