That's a bullshit excuse, because not everybody steals material. Carlin didn't steal material. Pryor didn't. Martin didn't. Louis CK, Patton Oswalt and Zach Galifianakis don't. BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE TO. They can come up with shit on their own. Only comics who don't have the wherewithal to write their own jokes steal.
And the comparison to music is bullshit too, because there's a huge difference between using a sample to create a new song and stealing a joke word-for-word. And look at the Coldplay-Satriani controversy: when musicians straight-up steal (as opposed to sample, which is a part of the artform these days) they get called out on it.
JUST BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE DO SOMETHING DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT. I'm sick of people saying Mencia and Cook should get a pass for stealing because other people steal. It's ****ing reeruned.

This is bullshit, too. Stand-up is a COMBINATION of writing talent and performance talent. Stealing shit and saying it louder does not make you a good comedian. It makes you a hack. And it taints every ****ing dollar you make.
