I don't think Carlin did it to the extent Cook does it though. Cook has some funny bits, like the wet bathroom/anti semetic graffiti bit. That's pretty good. The Burger King drive-thru bit with the lady mumbling about pickles is ok. But other ones, like the one where he talks about waiting in line at a store and then some guy cuts in front of him- it goes on and on, and there's really no joke there. He's just talking.
I remember Jerry Seinfeld said, about Howard Stern, something like "It's like sitting around a party all night just to wait for a line." (a line of coke I assume he meant) Dane Cook is kind of like that. It seems like you have to wait through a bunch of crap to get to anything good, and you wonder if it was worth it.
