Update for from someone in mid-30s who was in a frat:
Joining a frat was one of the best thing I've done in college. While my social network through them has all but disappeared these days, it was quiet valuable immediately after graduation in finding a job and having connections in cities where you didn't know anyone. And just ****ing amazing while in school.
There are douche bags in frats, no doubt in the world, but if you choose an at least somewhat respectable one it will enrich your college experience and help you after graduation.
I would recommend to anyone finding a happy medium between the honors fraternity and the infamous Delta Chi of "Animal House" when venturing off to a big school. I wouldn't change that decision for anything in the world.
