His Omaha Royals AAA numbers:
4-0 1.44 ERA, 25 innings pitched, 1.12 WHIP, 16K, 7BB, 21H.
He has started 4 games and won each of them. He still only goes an average of 6 innings per game and one would think with his brand of domination he would have more innings under his belt. He has improved from his 2008 numbers in the minors where he started 3 games recording a 1 win and 1 loss record. He had a 2.60 ERA, 17H+BB over 17.1 innings for almost exactly a 1.00 WHIP. He recorded 12 K and 6 BB. In 2009 hitters are hitting .239 against him which is up from .180 in 2008. His ratio of ground outs to air outs has fallen from a 4.57/1 ratio last year to a 2.73/1.
Despite this he has displayed an ability to keep runs from scoring and turning the ball over to the bullpen in good shape to get the win. Certainly some of his success in the wins column is due to his teams offense as well as his pitching.
It was rumored the reason Hochevar was sent to the minors was to build arm strength but at this point he seems to be a better option than Ponson, despite Sir Sidney's solid outing against Detroit.
Anybody know any plans? I don't.
With the Royals lack of a middle relief pitcher who can go long innings it would be nice to move Ponson to that spot and Hochy to the 4th starter role with Banny as the 5th starter.

Well Dayton said his stuff falls off after 45 pitches......I hope he meant MPH and movement. He wants to see his pitch count come up and his stuff remain solid. What he's doing right now makes him just a guy in rotation. 2/1 SO/BB is OK but think about Gil and Zack dealing at about 6/1. Well Gil only 3/1 after last nights debacle. Ponson and Davies are both 2/1. You'd be switching one peice for the exact same piece. Now what the Royals may be doing (which I think is not trying to win, but not lose) is keep him down until mid May to avoid him being a super two.
