I agree that it should never be 'the' basis, but I think it needs to be an important part of a healthy, long-term relationship. I believe the intimacy, the closeness, is that important. What I was saying at the end of the last post is that I think it's hard to feel that intimacy if the emotion is distilled out of the act, if for an individual's life it never becomes anything more than scoring. I think at some point, you have to grow out of that or you can't ever enjoy real intimacy. And I think that's where the "old, sterile" sex shows up.

FYI, I was somebody who did wait until his 20s, and I agree with you. I'm just pointing out the other end of the spectrum.
