Well, Pioli would have them killed outright, so no-go there. I'm guessing their beef with the Royals has to do with bad game management, much in the same way Herm was just a god-awful field general. I don't know or follow baseball at all, but I'm guessing there isn't as much parity in the MLB system as there is in the NFL.
The Royals market doesn't help much either I'm guessing. It's probably hard to get good players to come to KC, so when a guy like Greinke starts to pop, the fans and the media start getting pissed because everyone around the "star" isn't playing up to his level.
And hardcore MLB fans are more vitriolic than football fans, and have been that way for a long time.
