In all seriousness, this game was something the Yanks really needed. Great to get a win and look good doing it.
My observations:
1) Gooch is a MONSTER in the air. Controlled the center from the first whistle.
2) When Donovan plays with confidence, he can make up for an overall lack of creativity from other players.
3) Pulling Altidore (again) in the 67th when he's giving the Egyptian defender fits, is idiotic. Speaking of forwards, Connor Casey has no business being on the field, especially after the light jog he put in during the last match.
4) Ricardo Clark still hasn't convinced me he's the answer in the middle. Torres NEEDS another shot. If we don't see either Adu or Torres, getting a go in the Gold Cup I will be severely disappointed.
5) Spector made the most of his opportunities and should have the right back spot locked down. He gets forward well (what a service today) and is decent against faster strikers. Sorry Hejduk, I still love your effort.
6) DeMerit has looked better than expected at CB. You have to at least consider putting Bocanegra out on the left, even though I think he may lack the pace to stick. He has club experience out wide though.

i don't get to watch a lot of soccer, but donovan is a mystery to me...he has some ball skills, and great vision, great effort, but no desire to finish (80% of his goals are pk, i think)....passing up the shot on that first opportunity was emblematic...you have to want that shot
but he can be brilliant setting others up....dempsey is the same, but worse...he has ball skills (maybe the best on the team?) but always seems to be half-assing and noodling around until someone kicks it away....i never know what he thinks he is trying to accomplish...and he's lazy on defense...but he is capable of the brilliant play as today showed...is he playing the same position he plays for his club, and if not, why not?
we have some physicality in the backfield with onyewu(?) but our midfield is soft as butter, it seems...where is the attitude? the muscle?....there is a guy in Germany who will be available in October (Torres or jones??) who is supposed to be that guy - an enforcer - though i've never seen him play, he could be a huge improvement for our squad.
we still obviously don't have a world class striker, or world class anything for that matter (our goalie?), but we have enough talent to be solid and not get embarrassed by the major powers, don't we? with some coherent attack and coaching which seems to be lacking...(and i've watched enough to know i don't want to see beasley or casey anytime soon...and dempsey needs either and attitude adjustment or a rest)...
