The German invasion of Poland brought France and England into war with Germany. Ironically when all the dust was settled the Soviet Union ruled Poland and set up their own puppet government. So from that standpoint the entire reason for France and Briton's entry into the war could be viewed as a failure. On one of the interesting "what if" scenarios would be if the Secret pact formed between Germany and the Soviet Union to divide Poland at the beginning of the war had occurred in reverse order. The Soviets attacking first and the Germans second using the same excuse the Russians did in the real event. Would France and the United Kingdom have been obligated to declare war on the Soviet Union?
