My memory of that play is that there was a long delay after the fight was over, during which the officials were trying to decide where the ball should be placed. Dawson's run gave the Chiefs a first down and virtually iced the game, even before the penalty was enforced. You'll notice on the next play in the video, the ball was marked back near the 50. But I do not think that was the initial positioning of the ball by the officials. My memory is that Madden threatened to and actually began to remove his players from the field in protest. Finally, the ball was placed back at the 50 and history unfolded. My questions:

1. Does anyone else remember these details the way I do, as far as the controversy of where the ball should be placed?

2. If both Davidson and Taylor were penalized for offsetting dead-ball fouls, where should the ball be placed? I contend it should be where Dawson went down, because the off setting penalties were dead ball, after the play had ended.

3. If the placement of the ball back near the 50 is correct, why would NFL players not routinely commit dead ball fouls whenever a game changing play occurred in hopes of retaliation by the other team and the requirement to re-run the play?

4. Not a question, but an opinion. I still blame Otis Taylor a little bit for that tie game, since if he had kept his cool, we would have won.
