Also, you pointed out that NE went to a better bowl game. The only people that care about the bowls seeding is the fans. Sure people teams want bigger bowls, but the fact is, they want to win the bowl they go to, to improve the quality of recruits.
Teams get more money from certain bowls and the Gator Bowl was on New Years day which helps recruiting. Thats why the plus 1 would be the best so smaller schools would still get money for making a bowl game.
