I looked at the game a little last night and for the most part he made the most of what he had. There were a couple plays where he missed a hole, but only a couple. And he had a very nice cutback ran for a 14-yard gain where he made a guy miss.
Charles usually has a lot more space to work with due to the fact he is getting the ball in passing situations on draws. He did have one little run where he made a couple guys miss in the backfield. His called back TD run was also impressive.
But you are painting a picture that LJ is some huge problem and Charles is the answer, and it is not true.
Fer crissakes, I saw LJ take a pitch yesterday, had a nice lane opening up on the right side and was headed through it. But Niswanger blew a block on a linebacker so horribly at the line that the LB just sped through it and ran into LJ right after he got the pitch.
He has no chance when crap like that happens. And it has happened twice in three games now. Niswanger couldn't block Ray Lewis on a similar play.
I'm not going to say LJ is perfect but when he gets a hole he is fine. There are a lot of good running backs around the league struggling right now. LJ is no different.
