Like morphius said, the best features of FB are the "block this app from sending you requests" and "hide this app".
And that's sad, because the site has so much potential, yet most people just want to play games and take quizzes, and very few people actually use it to anything close to its potential.
At least they're going back to the old style news feed soon. The real-time news feed highlighted everything that's wrong with FB (pointless apps) and hides the whole reason FB exists (finding friends and networking). Post a link or an album? It might show up on the right side, depending on how much other stuff is going on. Find a picture of a cow? That's front page shit right there!
