It just looks like we have a perfect storm of shit on our team. We have players who are too under-talented for what is being asked of them by equally under-talented coaches who are unable to figure out what to do with the trash heap players. I may be off, but if a coach is truly good they will find a way to minimize the negative effects of poor players and maximize what their skill set can actually handle.
To me, if we don't do the following, it will be a major mistake and doom any shot Haley has at succeeding:

1) Hire a capable OC who can at least design gameplans and focus on our offensive strengths and weaknesses, as well as the opponent's, day in and day out. Haley can call the plays if he wants, but his other focus needs to be on coaching the team. Right now our offensive game planning and adjustments are crap. He needs an independent set of eyes in this department.

2) Bring in a top notch, proven defensive coordinator. They tried to do that last year with Crennel, but he opted to spend a year rehabbing after surgery. I don't think Pendergast is the solution at DC, and the fact they took so long to name him the DC tells me they probably (hopefully) aren't 100% sold on him either.

Aside from that, the staff needs some real tweaking. I think if there are better people out there who can coach our players, you need to go get them. If he is demoting his WR coach during the year and replacing him with a guy who was here on a coaching internship, then my assumption is that there are going to be better coaches out there.

I think a true measure of how good a head coach is will be reflected in what kind of assistants he surrounds himself with. And these assistants will also have major input in the type of players we bring in for them to coach.

Right now I think Haley's staff is crap. You can take each one of those guys' resumes and find major issues with them. I can say OK, because by the time he was hired, he was left picking guys off the scrap heap, so he gets another shot at hiring a staff. But barring a stunning turn around in the second half of the season, if there are not major changes this offseason on the staff (and, of course, on this roster), Haley will not be here for year 3...
