You guys are definitely stronger and more built than me, I'd say... that being said, I recently had a lot of success with pull ups. I had basically plateaued at sets of 5 (sounds kind of like you with your sets of 3). I started throwing on the weight belt and -adding- weight for my pullups for a few weeks. That got me over the hump, and I can rock out sets of 15-20 now.
Just an idea. You might not have been doing pullups for long, but if you ever start feeling like you're not progressing, think about adding some weight for a while.
