Well, the Panavision cameras can't be bought. They can only be rented/leased. They've had a stranglehold on the industry for nearly a century.

Well, yes and no. There are plenty of films being shot by accomplished directors on the RED camera and have been from the beginning. It's more of a cost factor plus the fact you can watch the dailies instantaneously.
