Thing is, as bad as this problem is, it's
A problem, singular. A problem that can be focused on and ameliorated with enhanced attention or new personnel in short order. The routes are being run right, people are getting open, the line is providing protection, the running game is still there for you. A million things going right and one [admittedly crucial] thing going wrong.
The problems with the D have exponential causes and ameliorating them could take years of work, even if tackled with perfect analysis and attention.
And that's not even delving into the age old question of whether it's more important to have a great passing game or defense to achieve ultimate success in the NFL.
