While my curiosity is piqued what is meant by the green shaded squares below the post count?
Pardon my ignorance in this matter but to some, rep seems very important. Having a hip flask full of cognac keeping warm under your clothes when fishing in winter is important. Important to me but probably equally unimportant to others. I reckon this is how I see "rep".
Please don't negrep (is that a word?) me if you don't like/agree with me. It may ruin my day.

Typically, the higher your rep...as in reputation, the better the poster you are; or you post a shitload.
If you have a lot of rep points it's either because people like you and you bring good takes/teh funny to the board or because you post like 30 posts a day so you're bound to receive positive rep.
That red +/- box next to the Edit/Quote options at the bottom of each post is how you give reputation, so if somebody likes or dislikes what you have to say, they'll rep you accordingly.
My number is 57ish.
