Congratulations. I remember the joy of the day I got out.
I don't know if you're retiring or getting out after one hitch. If you're retiring, that's great, and disregard everything else I'm about to write.
I know there's a big difference between the Army of today and the Navy of 20 years ago, and there's no real comparison between the suck of being stuck on a carrier out at sea for months on end and the suck of being stuck in Afghanistan for months on end. However.... I enlisted on April 3, 1984 and got out April 2, 1990. On April 2, 2004, I will tell you that I spent a good part of the day thinking about how cool it would be to have a pension and free health care benefits for the rest of my life.
I'm not telling you I think you should stay in - I'm not even recommending it. But this is something you'll think about when you get older. It's rough out there.
