I've been a Sirius owner for almost 10 years now. I could kick myself for not paying the $400 lifetime membership when I had the chance.
I got it when living in Colorado. I took weekend trips up to the mountains and it was perfect for those long drives. It was even better when I relocated to Florida and had uninterrupted music, news, and talk stations all the way through.
It's worth it if you're a music lover. You'll never hear half-hour long songs on your local radio. You'll never hear obscure music on your local radio stations.
Add in the fact that I get NFL talk, games, and news 24/7, then it is quite possibly the best thing I've ever bought.
When my receiver crapped out a couple of years ago, they replaced me with a new one, including installation for free.
