I love my iPod Touch. It does everything an iPod does, plus acts as a minicomputer. You can find WiFi at so many bookstores, coffee shops, and restaurants nowadays (not to mention people with unlocked networks).

I was stealing WiFi from a neighbor for a month, and when it locked up I couldn't believe how much I missed the ability to whip out the Touch and hit the Web for a minute while my wife is on the computer, or I didn't want to go through the hassle of starting up the computer. So I bought a wireless router just so I could use my Touch (and connect my TiVo to the Internet). When I head to bed, I bring the Touch and give a quick last check of my e-mail, Facebook, AP news, the Planet, etc.,., update my apps and poke around the app store (so much free shit you can try), and then play a quick game of Scramble 2 (basically multiplayer online Boggle).

It's amazing how quickly technology moves. A few years back, I bought the first generation Nano (around $200-250). Not too long after, for the same price, I bought the first generation video Nano (the horizontal-screen one that they stopped making). Recently for the same price you could get the new video Nano with a videocamera in it; then, for the same price, you could buy an iPod Touch.

I bought the 8GB for $199. Since I have the Nano, I didn't need a bigger Touch. I keep all my music on the Nano and only use the Touch for apps and video.

Yes, I know, for not much more you can buy a real iPod. But the thing I like about the Touch--like the Nano--is the solid-state aspect. No moving parts, no microdrives. I know iPod owners who've dropped them once and they didn't work; the Nano, and the Touch, as long as you don't crack the screen when you drop it, no harm no foul.
