You also don't reach for a RB because you walked into the draft desperate to bring in somebody, because you failed to address the need in free agency.
The Chiefs need a #2 RB. It might be our #1 priority, simply because we need somebody to keep Charles healthy.
I would rather only draft a RB if he was at the right value. If the Chiefs go into the draft and don't find a RB they like, then I'm fine with a guy like Jones. If the Chiefs do find a RB at a great value, you can either cut Jones and take a one-time cap hit or keep the drafted RB for situational downs.
Either way, I don't see the problem. It's not like our picking up a guy like Jones is going to affect our ability to draft a RB. And given that the contract will be frontloaded, it's not like it's going to keep us from bringing in future free agents.
I wish it was Sproles or Taylor. But honestly, to say we shouldn't bring in a veteran free agent RB at all is senselsess, IMO.
