I think it's a smart move. They're the most popular sport in the US by a fairly wide margin - the ****ing
draft, not even a game, is going to beat the NBA playoffs in ratings - and it's pretty clear they want to keep it that way by taking their public image so seriously.
And it's a proactive approach. The punishments are severe because they're intended to be a deterrent, to keep players from getting themselves into these situations to begin with.
After the first situation and the motorcycle accident and now this, I can see why Pittsburgh would be willing to listen to offers now. Nothing he's done off-the-field so far makes him look like he's a very bright guy. Hell, when Terry fucking Bradshaw's calling you a dummy....
