I can only go by what I was doing originally in school almost 20 years ago (jesus), which was 6-8 miles/day running and then weight-lifting 3 times a week on top of that. I was never huge into lifting, though. I was doing it for baseball. I've always preferred running to anything else. But, either way, my conditioning/endurance was never any problem then. All I'm saying is that I was stronger and more efficient (and more focused) if the lifting was done first.
Now on the other hand, I think my "conditioning" would fall somewhere in the neighborhood of "pickled".
