That story absolutely destroyed me. If you can read through that and not feel an ounce of pain, empathy, sadness, joy, etc, then you are dead.
My god I still want to cry and I am not sure if it is out of happiness for never having gone through anything like that, or happiness for them as a family, or sadness and dread for Kermit.
