I understand the need for the team to play as a team against another team in a true scrimmage environment. We are not expected to pay full price for training camp or the scrimmage game against the vikings. We should not have to pay full price for those games either. To me preseason games are merely, practice, scrimmage games.
While I understand your point you must consider that teams that pay rent for the stadium don't get a preseason discount, the grounds crew and other operations people that work the stadium don't work for less, the electric and water rates are not billed at a reduced rate, and the cost of buying hot dogs, beer, soda, etc... to sell doesn't change.
In many cases the team pays for the TV production and/or broadcast time for the games an expense not realized during the regular season.
A preseason game is just as or more expensive to a team than a regular season game.
It is all about the business of the game.
