What irks me is Whedon seems to have a thing for killing off / harming his male characters that some dudes might identify with. A slanted viewpoint to justify your theory. You forgot to mention...
He offed Willow's girlfriend Tara.
He offed Xander's girlfriend Anya.
He offed Cordelia after she moved to "Angel".
He offed Buffy's mom with a brain tumor.
He offed the third slayer (that hot Spanishy looking chick).
He offed Darla, then brought her back in "Angel", then offed her again.
He offed a bunch of Slayerettes at the end of the show.
Hell, he even offed Buffy herself. Twice. (End of Season 1, end of Season 5.)
Methinks Joss just likes to kill people in general.
