In college, their speed/strength was probably enough to blast lesser players and get away with it. Now they are in the NFL where everyone they face is as strong, fast, agile, etc.
Plus it has to be a bit subconscious. Ever see anyone try to knock a door down arms first? They throw a shoulder into it.
I don't know what can be done to drill it into their heads, but I wish it was being done. I can't stand seeing guys try to tackle with their shoulder.

i think they have so much drilled into there heads that in the end just making or assisting in a stop is good enough even if it means a wiff or shoulder tackle.
